About The Artist 👩🏾🎨🎨
Andrea Pippins is a visual activist, illustrator, and author. Andrea Pippins was born and raised in Bowie, Maryland. Her father is a Black American and her mother migrated from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Andrea's mother worked at a sewing studio in the Georgetown neighbourhood of Washington, D.C. doing alterations. Pippins recalls the days she spent at her mum’s worksite as being “immersed in creativity,” surrounded by patterns and buttons as she drew and coloured. Her interest in art and expressive culture—notably fabrics, fashion, and colour—would later become themes in her work.
Andrea published her first book “I Love My Hair,” an adult colouring book featuring her illustrations of various hairstyles and textures. Her work has since been featured in Essence magazine, The New York Times, and O: The Oprah Magazine.
